PlayStation 6 — AI Boom Delays New Generation Until 2029
According to recent reports from analysts at Sandstone Insights and insider Tom Henderson, hopes for a PlayStation 6 release in 2027 or 2028 are fading fast. The industry is facing a "perfect storm" that is turning console gaming into a very expensive hobby.
There is a real risk that even the prices of the PS5 and Xbox Series X could rise during 2026 due to component shortages. If Sony does decide to launch the PS6 before 2029, the console could become a "premium product" with a price tag significantly higher than the usual $499. Analysts are already predicting a starting price in the range of $699–799.
A prolonged cycle of 9–10 years (if the PS6 launches in 2029) could lead to the console's hardware being hopelessly outdated compared to PCs by the time of its release, as NVIDIA and AMD update their lineups every two to three years.
