Rumor: Possible DLC for Witcher 3 to Take Players to Zerrikania

For several months, a rumor has been circulating online that CD Projekt RED might release an unexpected third DLC for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt this year.

Recently, the Polish division of IGN added fuel to the fire by revealing a potential setting for the expansion. Reporters claim that several years ago, they got information that CDPR showed particular interest in the desert region of Zerrikania. At that time, they decided not to report it since the potential expansion was indicated by only one source, but now there are more hints.

It's suggested that the Manticore Witcher School, mentioned in the "Blood and Wine" expansion, will play an important role in the narrative.

Regardless, this information should be taken with skepticism.

Other noteworthy news came from Eurogamer, who contacted Noble Securities analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski. According to him, several independent sources claim that CD Projekt RED will release the expansion no later than May 2026. This is also suggested by the studio's developer incentive plans.

CDPR's management has provided bonuses for its employees if they achieve over two billion zlotys in revenue between 2025 and 2028. The analyst calculated the studio's current profit and found a significant gap that a major expansion could fill.

Currently, the studio needs to earn 700 million zlotys in just five quarters to overcome the first threshold. This means they need to release something bigger than just another update or a port for a niche platform.

There's a 90% chance it's an expansion for the third "Witcher". It's a natural direction in terms of the required revenue scale. However, a small spin-off like The Thaumaturge is also likely.

Chrzanowski specifically mentioned The Thaumaturge, as rumors suggest the development of the new expansion was entrusted to its creators at Foolʼs Theory studio. However, it's important to remember that Foolʼs Theory is also working on a full remake of the first The Witcher, which will release only after The Witcher IV.
