Game Source Entertainment, TVT, and Ratata Arts say the rhythm roguelike Ratatan lands on Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on July 16, 2026. It’s already been playable in Steam early access since September 2025, so some impressions have been floating around.
Think of Ratatan as a musical commander’s sandbox — a spiritual follow-up to Patapon. You take the role of a conductor, issuing controller-pattern commands that translate into musical phrases and troop orders; timing is everything, e.g., hit the button on the beat to get the desired move. The core challenge is rhythmic: sync your presses to keep the little army moving and fighting.
The game pushes the beat-based idea further by letting Ratatan units wield instruments and trigger strong, flashy skills during encounters. Movement has been reworked (not tossed out), while the familiar four-beat attack/defense cycle remains at the heart of combat — fans should spot the lineage, even as the systems feel a bit fresher.
