Tencent may shut down its Western studio TiMi Montreal
According to reports from former employees, the Chinese company Tencent may decide to close its Western studio TiMi Montreal. Notably, less than five years have passed since the subsidiary's founding in 2021.
As of now, official representatives of Tencent and TiMi Studio Group have not provided comments regarding the possible liquidation of the studio.
TiMi Montreal was an important project for the Chinese company. The studio employed renowned developer Ashraf Ismail, who previously held the position of creative director for the Assassin's Creed series, including Black Flag, Origins, and Valhalla.
During its operation, the studio participated in the development of several major projects. Among them were an unannounced AAA open-world multiplatform role-playing game, as well as well-known projects like Pokemon Unite and Call of Duty: Mobile.
The potential closure of the studio could become a notable event for the gaming industry. This is especially true considering that TiMi Montreal was a relatively young division with ambitious plans to create big-budget projects for the Western market.
