Amazon No Longer Interested in Expensive Games — Head Leaves Studio
The head of Amazon Game Studios, Christoph Hartmann, is leaving the company.
This move reflects Amazon's strategic shift away from developing big PC and console games towards focusing on the cloud service Luna.
Under Hartmann's leadership, formerly a co-founder of 2K Games, Amazon invested significant funds into game development, but most projects, such as the shooter Crucible and games based on "The Lord of the Rings," failed or were shut down.
In recent years, the company has also been cutting teams and sold the March of Giants studio to Ubisoft, indicating a move away from costly AAA games. Amazon has not yet named Hartmann's successor or commented on the future of its remaining gaming initiatives.
