NVIDIA Introduces DLSS 4.5 with Enhanced Frame Generation

The Consumer Electronics Show 2026 (CES) has begun in Las Vegas, where high-tech companies showcase their latest developments and offer a glimpse into the future. During its presentation, NVIDIA unveiled an AI model for autonomous vehicles and brought robots on stage, but we'll focus on announcements related to the gaming industry.

NVIDIA DLSS 4.5

The company announced a major update for its image scaling technology, NVIDIA Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS). Version 4.5 features an improved second-generation AI model and a completely new 6x multi-frame generation mode for the flagship RTX 50-series graphics cards.

The AI model has been trained to better recognize scenes in games, using engine data to enhance lighting and render movements more clearly. This is designed to improve image quality and reduce graphic artifacts like "ghosting" and flickering.

As highlighted by the Director of Product Management, Henry Lin, the computational power of the second-generation model is five times greater than the original AI model. This fully unleashes the potential of the GeForce RTX 40 and 50 series graphics cards with their faster tensor cores.

DLSS 4.5 is available on all RTX cards, but it performs best on the 40 and 50 series cards. In the spring, the 50 series cards will launch a 6x multi-frame generation mode, allowing for 4K gaming at a target refresh rate of 240Hz. The system generates five additional frames for each full frame instead of three in the previous version.

This spring, the GeForce RTX 50 lineup will gain access to a dynamic multi-frame generation mode, which NVIDIA compared to an automatic transmission for the graphics card. In this mode, the system automatically switches between different fps multipliers to find the ideal balance between frame rate, image quality, and responsiveness.

In heavy graphical scenes, the system "shifts to a higher gear," boosting frame generation to compensate for fps drops and maintain a perfectly smooth picture on a high-refresh monitor. Once the system load decreases, it smoothly lowers the "rpm," creating only the necessary number of frames.

Demonstration of NVIDIA Technologies in Upcoming Games

DLSS 4 launched in January 2025, and since then, the number of games supporting the technology has exceeded 250. This number will continue to grow with new releases. Here are some examples:

  • 007 First Light from IO Interactive will support DLSS 4 with multi-frame generation. To make the game's environment look natural, the team implemented a volumetric smoke and fog system. 007 First Light will also feature an updated AI system to make NPC interactions feel more realistic.
  • On PC, Pragmata will support DLSS 4 and path tracing, providing more natural reflections, shadows, and indirect lighting, enhancing immersion and realism. Pragmata will also include multi-frame generation.
  • The developers of Resident Evil Requiem prepared a trailer showcasing path tracing on PC. "Requiem" will also feature DLSS 4 with multi-frame generation.
  • When Phantom Blade Zero launches in September 2026, it will support DLSS 4 with multi-frame generation. The PC version will have exclusive features like ray-traced reflections and shadows.
  • The online PvPvE shooter Active Matter from Gaijin Entertainment will include DLSS 4 with multi-frame generation, ray-traced global illumination, ray-traced shadows and reflections, as well as NVIDIA Reflex support to reduce input lag.
  • At launch, the cyberpunk shooter DEFECT will support DLSS 4 with multi-frame generation. emptyvessel studio prepared an exclusive trailer showcasing the technologies.
