Nintendo Switch 2 Shows Mixed Sales Results in Key Markets
According to a recent report from The Game Business, sales of the new Nintendo Switch 2 console are showing mixed trends in the world's major markets. Despite some positive indicators, the console faced a noticeable decline in demand during the 2025 holiday season compared to the debut performance of the original Switch in 2017.
In the US, sales of Switch 2 in November–December 2025 were 35% lower than those of the first model during the same period seven years ago. In France, the drop was even more significant—30% compared to 2017 figures. The UK also exhibited negative dynamics, with holiday season sales of the new model 16% lower than the original console in its debut year.
However, a broader analysis paints a less pessimistic picture. When looking at sales across Europe as a whole, Switch 2 managed to surpass its predecessor by 7%. In the UK, the new console exceeded 2017 numbers for the entire year with a 6% gain.
An ambiguous situation is also observed in Japan. On one hand, by the end of 2025, Switch 2 outperformed the original Switch by 11%. On the other hand, its sales during the key holiday period in December were slightly lower than those of its predecessor in 2017.
