Banned in Russia, Meta Bets on Nuclear Energy to Power AI: Massive Capacity Reserved
Meta (banned in Russia) has signed deals with three nuclear energy companies — Vistra, TerraPower, and Oklo. The goal is to power its growing AI infrastructure, including the future Prometheus supercluster. By 2035, Meta will have access to 6.6 GW of new and existing capacities. Alongside a previous contract with Constellation Energy, this makes Meta one of the largest corporate buyers of nuclear energy in the US.
Partnership Details:
- TerraPower: Meta will fund two promising projects. By 2035, eight new Natrium reactors with energy storage capabilities will be launched.
- Vistra: The company will purchase over 2.1 GW from operating nuclear plants in Ohio and invest in their modernization.
- Oklo: The partnership aims to build small modular reactors in Ohio by 2030 to power Meta’s new AI cluster.
