Lee Pace to Reprise Role as Thranduil, King of Mirkwood, in "The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Hunt"

Lee Pace has confirmed he’s returning for "The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Hunt." His Thranduil — that icy, regal presence from the Hobbit films — left an impression, and Pace took to social media to call the chance to don the elven crown again a “true gift” (w/ a hint of awe, and perhaps a little nerves).

Warner Bros. is putting together a high-profile cast. Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood are back in their familiar roles; joining those franchise vets are Jamie Dornan and Leo Woodall, incl. a few newer names yet to be announced. It’s a blend of the old guard and fresh faces that will no doubt spark fan theories.

The film is set for Dec. 17, 2027. For now, what Thranduil will do in the pursuit of Gollum is pure conjecture — e.g., lead an expedition, broker a deal, or appear in an unexpected cameo — and fans (and forums) will have a field day guessing.
