The streaming service Prime Video has announced the name of the actor approved for the role of Kratos in the series based on God of War. The main character will be played by Ryan Hurst. He previously voiced Thor in God of War: Ragnarök.
You may also have seen Hurst in the films Saving Private Ryan and Remember the Titans, as well as in the series The Walking Dead, where he played the antagonist Beta, in Bates Motel and in Sons of Anarchy.
Christopher Judge (Christopher Judge), who portrayed Kratos in the last two GoW games, and the Sony Santa Monica team congratulated Ryan Hurst on landing the role in the series.
"We can't wait to see his version of Kratos — now he will stand alongside legends such as T. S. Carson and Christopher Judge, each of whom has left their mark on this character forever," the developers tweeted.
So far, Hurst is the only officially confirmed cast member of the show. As a reminder, Amazon's adaptation of God of War is based on the last two games in the series — the soft reboot God of War from 2018 and God of War: Ragnarök. Kratos is raising his son Atreus and must travel to the highest mountain to scatter the ashes of Faye, Atreus' mother and Kratos' wife.
According to media reports, filming is set to begin in March 2026.
