Jacob Elordi — Top Contender for James Bond
Renowned journalist Roger Friedman, whose extensive professional experience is beyond doubt, has confirmed information circulating in the film industry since last year that 28-year-old Australian actor Jacob Elordi is among the top candidates for the role of James Bond.
Elordi's career is rapidly ascending. Following his breakthrough role in the HBO series "Euphoria," the actor solidified his success by collaborating with acclaimed directors Sofia Coppola and Guillermo del Toro. This year has been particularly significant for him: Elordi received his first Oscar nomination for his work in the film "Frankenstein."
According to Friedman's report, which has already been picked up by major news outlets, Elordi has held negotiations with key figures in the Bond franchise: the franchise producers, representatives from Amazon MGM Studios, and director Denis Villeneuve.
If the studio chooses Elordi, he would become the youngest actor to portray Agent 007 in the franchise's history. This aligns with Amazon MGM's stated strategy of rejuvenating the Bond character. However, there is one significant circumstance: the actor is not British, which has traditionally been considered an important criterion for this role.
Insiders report that Amazon MGM is actively lobbying for Elordi's candidacy, although an official offer has not yet been made. It is anticipated that screen tests with his participation could take place as early as 2026.
Screenwriter Steven Knight, the creator of "Peaky Blinders," is working on the new film's script. He is developing the screenplay based on Ian Fleming's early novels, which could signify a return to the character's origins. According to the creators' vision, the future Bond should combine not only classic charm but also physical power and a hidden menace—qualities that Elordi has convincingly demonstrated in his previous work.
Filming for the movie could potentially begin in late 2026, so a casting decision is expected in the near future.
