Jack of all trades, master of none — Deadpool in Marvel Rivals was assigned to three classes at once

On January 16, the sixth season of Marvel Rivals will begin, and in the first half of the season, the talkative mercenary Deadpool will join the character pool. Fans have long wondered what role the developers would give him. But in the end, few managed to guess NetEase's thinking, as Wade Wilson will become the shooter's most versatile fighter.

New hero According to the lore of the sixth season, Rogue and Gambit must infiltrate the Collector's museum. The Collector, in turn, sent two of his best mercenaries there: Deadpool and Elsa Bloodstone. Apparently, Wade Wilson found this task too boring, so he betrayed his employer and plunged the museum into complete chaos. Deadpool will be the first to join the Marvel Rivals roster in season six. And he will do so with great skill, as he will be the first hero to belong to three classes at once: strategists, duelists, and defenders. As the character himself said in the trailer, people constantly complain that the game needs more defenders and strategists, so Deadpool will fill three roles at once. Each of them is worth discussing in more detail.

But first, let's talk about what remains unchanged: weapons and passive skills. Regardless of class, the character wields twin pistols and katanas. Deadpool has two passive skills. The first adds a "style meter" to the screen, which fills up with successful hits on enemies, allowing you to activate your ultimate ability much earlier. The second passive skill is self-healing. In case of defeat, Wade comes back to life as Wolverine, and the ability's cooldown starts.

Another feature of the talkative mercenary is the skill tree. During a match, Deadpool earns experience points that must be spent on upgrades. Points are accumulated for hitting enemies and taking selfies with defeated characters. It is important that Wilson performs the fatal attack.

Here's a quick overview of what Deadpool can do depending on his class:

  • Deadpool the Duelist. He throws his katanas forward and then pulls them back. Wilson is also able to interfere with opponents by cluttering their interface with his cartoon copies, which will definitely make it harder to aim. Judging by the footage, this ability is present in each of his roles, but it gains various additional effects.
  • Deadpool Strategist. Shooting enemies causes them to lose health, while shooting allies heals them. Katana works in a similar way, but there is no need to slash your comrades to heal them — each swing emits a healing wave. He can throw his own portrait like a boomerang.
  • Deadpool Defender. Throws a plush unicorn that creates a spherical shield that protects against enemy projectiles.

Other content for the first half of the season

  • A new map for the museum convoy will be added and will be available on January 29.
  • On the peaceful Times Square map, it will be possible to activate photo mode. In addition, a new area will open where you can challenge other players to duels. For a handful of units, the battle will be broadcast on the big screens of Times Square.
  • The skill system will be refined so that gamers can continue to show off their skills. The maximum level for each character will increase, but the rewards will also become more rewarding.
  • New accessories will be introduced for ten heroes, including Deadpool, Rogue, Blade, Iron Man, and so on.
  • New combo abilities will be added and existing ones will be updated. For example, if Deadpool is on the team, Jeff the shark will be able to spit out toys that spray water around him. Within the radius of action, the toy heals allies and blocks the interface of opponents. The team abilities of Spider-Man and Human Torch will be removed entirely.
  • In the sixth season, the developers intend to weaken some strategists who are capable of fighting alone, as well as strengthen some mobile heroes. For example, Doctor Strange will receive a buff, while the already powerful Angela will have her wings slightly clipped. Gambit will become less powerful and his healing will be reduced. The Invisible Woman's self-healing and shield will also be nerfed, and so on. More details will be published in the patch notes.
  • In the sixth season of Marvel Rivals, zombie mode will officially close. A new PvE mode will appear in the game in the first half of 2026.
