Hulu Streaming Service Announces Who Will Play Scully's Replacement in "The X-Files" Reboot
Ryan Coogler, the director of "Black Panther" and recent BAFTA award winner for the film "Sinners," has officially launched development of a reboot of the cult classic "The X-Files." The streaming service Hulu has ordered a pilot episode for the new series, for which Coogler wrote the script himself and will serve as director.
One of the lead roles will be played by Danielle Deadwyler, known for projects like "Station Eleven" and the third season of "Euphoria." Jennifer Yale has been appointed as showrunner.
The plot will center on two high-level FBI agents with different personalities who are assigned to a long-closed unit investigating unexplained phenomena. Deadwyler's character will become one of the key figures.
The project is being created for the Onyx Collective label and 20th Television studio as part of Coogler's five-year television contract with Disney; development has taken nearly three years.
Coogler promises to preserve the spirit of the original while bringing something new: "If we do everything right, some episodes will be truly damn scary. We want to create something different — both for longtime fans and for new viewers."
He previously discussed the project with Gillian Anderson, but whether the star of the original series will be involved in the reboot remains unknown.
