Highguard will officially close on March 12

Developer Wildlight Entertainment has announced that their shooter Highguard will shut down on March 12. The servers will stay online until that date, so anyone who wants one last run can do so before service ends.

The studio says more than 2M players tried Highguard since launch, but that level of interest didn't translate into a stable, long-term community — in short, they couldn't make the player base sustainable. It's a disappointing outcome for the team, even if it wasn't unexpected.

Before the lights go out, the developers will roll out one final update. It will introduce a new Guardian character, fresh weapons, and additional progression mechanics (e.g., account-level progression and skill trees). Full patch notes are due soon, and the update should arrive in the near future.
