Highguard Servers Will Shut Down on March 12

The run was brief — the team behind the free-to-play shooter Highguard never managed a comeback after a sharp decline, and they’ve announced the project will go offline on March 12.

In a post from Wildlight Entertainment, Highguard is said to have drawn more than 2M players over its lifetime. Still, that headcount didn’t translate into long-term activity; the official reason given is a lack of a sustainable active user base.

Servers remain online until the cutoff date. “We hope you will join us once again to show your support and enjoy some final great matches while we still have the chance,” the developers added.

A final patch is planned before the shutdown — expect a new Guardian, fresh weapons, changes to account progression and skill trees (e.g., expanded customization). More specifics will come soon; the update is slated for today or tomorrow.

Highguard launched in late January on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. Reception was rough from the start: Steam reviews stayed in the “mixed” zone, with just 45% positive at the time this was written.
