Resident Evil 4 Remake Loses Denuvo Protection

Capcom continues its consistent policy of removing Denuvo protection from its games years after their release. The remake of Resident Evil 4 has now fallen victim to this policy—the system was only removed from it now, in February 2026.

The technical changes are confirmed on SteamDB, where a new patch has appeared, replacing the file containing the protection. This has also affected the game's size—its executable file has become 422 megabytes lighter.

The studio has long adhered to this practice. Previously, Denuvo was removed from Resident Evil Village, the RE2 and RE3 remakes, Devil May Cry 5, and Monster Hunter World. Typically, removal occurs about a year after the last update. For the fourth installment, the last major content patch was released in the fall of 2023 alongside the Separate Ways DLC.

Interestingly, despite previous successes by hackers in cracking the initial version, the protection in the updated game remained stable right up until the moment it was officially removed by the developers.
