Battlefield 6 Takes First Place, Black Ops 7 Ranks Fifth and is the Worst in History: US Game Sales Results for Last Year
According to new data from the analytics company Circana, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 became the worst-selling annual installment of the franchise since 2008. The game only managed to secure the fifth spot in the ranking of the best-selling projects of 2025 in the USA, losing the top position to Battlefield 6, NBA 2K26, Borderlands 4, and Monster Hunter Wilds. This is a historic event, as the Battlefield series has surpassed its main competitor for the first time.
The sales decline was significant: in Europe, Black Ops 7 sold 63% worse than Black Ops 6 in the first weeks after release, and in Japan, it showed the worst result for the series. The game also failed to attract a large audience on Steam—the peak of concurrent players after launch was minimal and quickly declined. Negative reviews and criticism for the use of AI added to the difficulties.
In an attempt to rectify the situation, the developers released extensive content for the first season, including free skins, and retail chains started sales with discounts of up to 50%. However, these measures did not change the overall picture.
