Former Team Spirit CS2 Captain Assesses New Roster's Form

Former Team Spirit Counter-Strike 2 captain Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov assessed the form of the team's updated roster in an interview.

New Roster and Restructuring

During the off-season, Spirit underwent a significant restructuring. Miroslav "zont1x" Plakhotya returned to the team, and Boris "magixx" Vorobyov took on the role of captain. In-game roles within the roster also changed. Andrey tN1R received new responsibilities, which affected position distribution and teamplay. Essentially, the team started building their game from scratch. According to chopper, such changes always require time, especially at the tier-1 level, where not only ideas matter but also micro-moments perfected to the point of automation.

The Return of zont1x

The return of zont1x was a crucial element. Vishnyakov noted that Miroslav's contribution is often underestimated from the outside. His value lies not only in his shooting but also in his communication; he assists the captain during rounds, provides information, and stabilizes situations. However, the player himself has not yet reached his peak individual form. In chopper's opinion, he will need time to regain his previous level of confidence in clutch situations. Strategically, though, his presence strengthens the team's structure.

magixx as IGL

For magixx, this is his first full-fledged stint as a captain at this level. There are no questions about his micro-skill; on the contrary, chopper emphasized that Boris is currently adding firepower to the team. The question of time pertains specifically to building the game. According to Vishnyakov's assessment, six months is the minimum timeframe for reaching a full-fledged tier-1 captain level. He also noted that from the outside, it's difficult to fully assess the depth of magixx's work, as some decisions are not always visible to viewers.

Current Form and Recent Results

Spirit has already shown the potential of the updated roster by reaching the semifinals of IEM Krakow 2026. This is a serious result for a team that has just begun its restructuring. However, consistency is still lacking. The team demonstrates varying levels of readiness on different maps. Currently, Spirit is playing a packed schedule, with tournaments coming one after another, leaving little time for full-fledged training blocks. This slows down the process of building a new system.

Team Spirit remains competitive but is in a formative stage. The team combines youth, firepower, and ambition, but a complete map pool and a stable structure are still being refined. In chopper's opinion, the main task now is not to overestimate current successes and to give the roster time. Reaching the semifinals of a major tournament is a good sign, but to compete for titles, the team needs several more months of systematic work.
