The End of an Era: Panasonic Stops Making TVs

Panasonic is officially exiting the TV market. Production is being transferred to China's Skyworth, but the company will retain quality control and participate in the development of flagship OLED models. Owners of TVs sold before March 2026 will receive full support.

In 2010, Panasonic held 41% of the global plasma panel market, but with the end of the plasma era, it failed to adapt to the dominance of LCD technology. In 2021, production outsourcing began, and in February 2025, the president admitted the possibility of selling the business. The deal with Skyworth became a logical conclusion.

Panasonic's exit marks the end of the Japanese era in the television industry. Earlier, Sharp, Toshiba, Hitachi, and Pioneer had already ceased production.
