Developers of the Action RPG Vindictus: Defying Fate Reveal Details About Gremlins and Announce CBT

The development team of the action RPG Vindictus: Defying Fate has published a February report, detailing one of the key races in the game world — the gremlins.

Despite their small size, these creatures pose a serious threat on the battlefield thanks to their high intelligence and outstanding engineering skills. In the Fomor army, gremlins serve as the primary technicians: they are responsible for building fortifications and maintaining complex machinery. To compensate for their lack of physical strength, gremlins use heavy weaponry of their own making. Their arsenal is not limited to the mechanical saws already shown — in battle, they actively employ explosive devices that allow for area-of-effect attacks. This makes them dangerous opponents at any distance.

Interestingly, the appearance and combat tactics of Fomor gremlins vary depending on their region of origin. These differences reflect the climatic and resource characteristics of specific locations, adding variety to battles with these creatures.

However, not all gremlins fight on the enemy's side. In the world of Vindictus: Defying Fate, there are so-called "fluffy gremlins" who have sided with humans. According to local legends, all members of this species are born covered in thick fur but lose it as they mature — along with gaining aggression. The peaceful individuals are a kind of mutant: their physical development stopped at an early stage. Because of this, their kin exiled them, and the fluffy gremlins adapted to life in human settlements. For example, in the city of Tarata, they master official professions and help players — offering a respite from endless battles, acting as a kind of link between humans and the rest of the world.

Concluding the report, the developers announced the transition to the final stage of preparation for closed beta testing (CBT) for a focus group. The upcoming stage will be limited in scope — this is due to logistical complexities. The main goal of the testing is to gather participant feedback to guide the refinement of the combat system and the debugging of game mechanics. The data obtained will help improve the project before larger-scale testing phases and bring the team closer to the release of Vindictus: Defying Fate.
