The developers of the multiplayer RPG Dragon Quest X say a new companion is incoming: "Creators," in collaboration with Google, have come up with a hero meant to travel alongside players. It will try to read situations, offer ways out of tricky spots, and carry on conversations with gamers — e.g., giving tactical hints or just shooting the breeze, which feels like a mix of utility and banter.
Square Enix intends to run tests at the end of March to exercise the companion's functions and iron out bugs (server checks, feature validation, etc.).
Google reps added that AI is already reshaping the games industry and that its influence should increase over the next 3-5 yrs, at least according to their outlook.
Dragon Quest X first landed in 2011 on the Wii and later appeared on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS, and Nintendo 3DS. In 2022 the single-player–focused remake, Dragon Quest X Offline, was released — a deliberate turn away from its original MMO roots.
