Doctors Next in Line for Replacement: OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Health Beta

OpenAI has begun testing a new section within the ChatGPT chatbot called ChatGPT Health. Its aim is to allow users to safely discuss health and wellness topics, supported by personal data from external sources.

OpenAI notes that medical queries consistently rank among the most common from ChatGPT users. To make these conversations more personalized and secure, developers have created a separate section.

Beta testers can connect third-party services to the chatbot, such as Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, Function, and electronic medical records. This allows the neural network access to a variety of data: from physical activity metrics and sleep patterns to lab results and medical history.

Special attention in ChatGPT Health is given to privacy protection. The section operates as an isolated space within the app. This means that information shared in ChatGPT Health is not used to train OpenAI's core models and is not shared in other chats. Multilevel encryption and special security protocols designed specifically for handling medical information are used for data protection. If a health-related conversation starts in the main ChatGPT interface, the system automatically suggests switching to the secure Health section.

With ChatGPT Health, users can, for example, interpret test results, prepare questions for doctor visits, track important metrics (like cholesterol levels), or get nutrition and exercise recommendations—taking into account data from connected services.

However, OpenAI emphasizes that ChatGPT Health is not a medical service. It is not intended for making diagnoses, prescribing treatments, or replacing consultations with doctors.

Initially, beta access is provided to a limited group of users. Full integration with electronic medical records and some partner apps is currently available only to users in the United States. In the coming weeks, OpenAI plans to expand access to ChatGPT Health, making the section available to all users of the web version and iOS app.
