"Did he just squat to take a sh...?" God of War's creator tore apart a shot from the series featuring Kratos and Atreus
David Jaffe, the mind behind God of War and Twisted Metal, publicly ripped into the very first image released from the new series. He wasn’t complaining that Ryan Hurst isn’t a carbon copy of Kratos; his beef is about how the actor is posed and what his face is doing. Jaffe's blunt take: the figure looks ridiculous.
Fans can argue they want a slow-burn father–son story. Fair. Still — why lead with an image that, to Jaffe, “looks like he squatted to take a dump in the woods”? That is the slice of the show millions will see first, and he thinks it should land differently (i.e., read with more menace or gravity).
He’s not the only skeptical voice. Earlier reactions from viewers included suspicions that promo art had been touched up or generated with neural nets, and those doubts haven’t entirely died down.
