How Bold: Highguard Creator Isn't Afraid of Becoming Concord 2.0 — Players Will "Eat Up" the F2P Format
In an interview, Wildlight Entertainment Vice President Jason Torfin stated that the studio is not afraid of repeating the fate of the failed shooter Concord. In his opinion, comparisons are inevitable, but the situation with their project is fundamentally different.
Torfin named the business model as the main distinction. Concord was a paid product, while Highguard is a completely free-to-play project. "You don't pay anything to play," he emphasized, pointing out that this removes the main barrier to entry and allows the gameplay itself to attract an audience.
The team is also relying on its experience. Most Wildlight employees are alumni of Respawn Entertainment who worked on Apex Legends. Torfin admits that Apex's launch happened without a clear roadmap, leading to chaos under the pressure of success. With Highguard, he says, everything is different: the content plan and support strategy were developed in advance.
