The End of NVIDIA's Dominance? Claude Code Neural Network Ported CUDA to AMD ROCm in 30 Minutes
A significant event has occurred in the world of AI development. One of the developers decided to test the capabilities of Claude Code — a specialized command-line interface (CLI) from Anthropic, which has deep access to the file system and build tools. The task was to adapt complex code, written exclusively for the proprietary NVIDIA CUDA architecture, to work on AMD accelerators via the open-source ROCm stack.
The AI didn't just mechanically replace libraries. Claude Code analyzed dependencies, identified incompatible functions, and independently wrote "wrappers" for the algorithms to work correctly on AMD hardware. After 30 minutes, the code was successfully compiled and ran on an Instinct MI300X accelerator, showing performance nearly identical to native.
