Counter-Strike 2 Analyst Criticizes frozen and Admires the Insane Level of Play

Renowned analyst Alex "Mauisnake" Ellenberg discussed Counter-Strike 2 in the latest episode of the Snake & Banter podcast. The main topics of discussion were the sharp decline in the individual form of David "frozen" Čerňanský and the phenomenally increased level of competition among tier-1 teams.

Sharp Decline in frozen's Form

The analyst did not hide his disappointment with the performance of the star rifler for FaZe Clan at the recent PGL Cluj-Napoca 2026. For a long time, Mauisnake considered the Slovak player a solid contender for a spot among the world's top five shooters for years to come. However, current results are forcing the expert to abandon this prediction.

According to him, just a couple of months ago the esports athlete was showing excellent play, and then his individual form literally plummeted into an abyss. Ellenberg emphasized that at the tournament in Romania, frozen was frankly dragging FaZe Clan down, wasting the best years of his career (although he acknowledged that the entire team looked lackluster).

Absurd Quality of Modern CS2

Reflecting on the overall level of the tier-1 scene, Mauisnake noted an unprecedented increase in the quality of team interactions. According to the analyst, top teams are currently demonstrating such a refined level of execution that after matches, it can be difficult to choose just a couple of highlights for the broadcast.

In practically every match, there are four or five exemplary rounds with perfect tactical plays, flawless flashbang usage, and pristine site takes for bomb planting.

Natural Selection and the End of the Era of Individualists

Ellenberg is convinced that substantial salaries (on average over $10,000 per month) motivate esports athletes to give their all, and the ecosystem itself instantly weeds out the weak. In modern Counter-Strike 2, it is no longer possible to survive at the tier-1 level solely on cool mechanical aim without an understanding of fundamental team tactics.

If in the past the pro scene regularly featured weak links who would drop off after one or two seasons, today even the worst player from a top-10 team possesses the highest competence in all aspects of the game.

Recently, British analyst Duncan "Thorin" Shields strongly disagreed with the HLTV portal's decision to award the prestigious tournament MVP award to French sniper ZywOo. The well-known journalist harshly criticized this controversial choice, unequivocally stating that the real best player of the Romanian championship was rifler Robin "ropz" Kool.
