Christophe Gans Wouldn't Mind Making Another Silent Hill Film Adaptation
Last week, the film Return to Silent Hill premiered. The new adaptation of the cult classic Silent Hill 2 disappointed both the majority of critics and general audiences, but the dubious start doesn't seem to have discouraged director Christophe Gans at all.
In a recent interview with Variety, Gans explicitly stated he would be happy to make another film in the franchise:
If I get the opportunity, we will return to Silent Hill once more. I see Silent Hill not just as a great video game series, but as a modern work of art. There's something truly experimental about it. I would like to adapt another chapter because some of them are very good and very different from both the first film and Return to Silent Hill. I love this world, and many people think I handle it quite well.

Gans also revealed that some ardent Silent Hill fans threatened him with violence even during the making of the first film:
Adapting a game considered a classic correctly and respectfully is not an easy task. Video game fans are often very passionate about them. I remember receiving many threats during the filming of the first movie. People said, 'If you mess it up, we will find you.' So I approached the first film with great responsibility, and the second with even more. At the same time, it was important for me to present a film that could also interest people who aren't into games.

To date, Return to Silent Hill has only a 17% "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 30% positive reviews from regular viewers. Its opening box office in the USA turned out to be the worst in the trilogy. On its premiere day, the film earned only $1.6 million. For comparison, the first film grossed $8.1 million, and Silent Hill: Revelation made $3.6 million.
