By September 2026, Sony will abandon PlayStation Network, but only in name
Sony intends to drop the "PlayStation Network" label by September 2026, while keeping the platform's existing features intact — PSN (aka PlayStation Network) will live on in function if not in name. Developers were sent a notice about the shift, and Tom Henderson at Insider Gaming obtained a copy of that letter. The company frames the move as cosmetic rather than technical, "to properly reflect the full range of evolving digital services." They haven't said what the account used on PlayStation consoles (and sometimes on PC) will be called going forward — FYI, no detail on the new naming surfaced in the leaked notice.
