Bungie Reveals Marathon Testing Stats: Survival Rate on Dire Marsh — Only 35.6%

Bungie posted a wrap-up of the server tests for Marathon, the sessions that ran up to the March 5 launch. The figures provoke a smile and a shiver—mixed feelings, really.

FYI: nearly a million runs happened in the basic “Hands” shell — no boosts, i.e., players went in plain and eager. Some went well; many did not.

The Dire Marsh map set the bleakest mark: a survival rate of just 35.6%. Roughly two-thirds of those who braved that place didn't make it out. And it gets spookier: a night mode for the map is planned.

Casual totals jump out at you. PvP deaths topped ~9.1 million. PvE takedowns? About 129 million — yes, the AI copped the worst of it.

And the oddball stat: 384,866 edible cheeseburgers were looted from raids and stashed in caches. Who knew comida hoarding would be a thing in Marathon — gastronomic instincts alive and well, it seems.
