Blizzard doesnt give a damn about the freedom of speech law in the usa world of warcraft is not affected

Blizzard Support has reminded players of World of Warcraft that a single profanity in chat can be enough to trigger a ban. In a reply to someone who'd been suspended the team wrote: “Freedom of speech is a matter for the US government, not a private company. Swearing is prohibited in our games.”

The company also pointed out that having a built-in profanity filter doesn’t mean users are free to ignore the Code of Conduct — i.e., the filter isn’t a hall pass. Players, meanwhile, pushed back hard. Many say the automatic moderation tools are frequently abused: bad actors file mass false reports and, as a result, honest folks end up punished.

Some reactions were outraged, some bemused; the debate now looks less like a rules discussion and more like a clash over how moderation tools are used in practice.
