Best and Worst PC Ports of 2025 According to Digital Foundry

In the western world, Santa (or his equivalents) has already handed out gifts to good boys and girls. Digital Foundry also created a list of model students and troublemakers, but among PC ports released in 2025. Who would the experts give a sweet treat, and who would get a lump of coal? Read below.

According to John Linneman, one of DF's experts, the year's situation with PC game versions isn't so grim: “We made a list, but it must be acknowledged that this year saw quite a few decent PC games in good condition — unlike some previous years”.

The hosts compiled two lists: one with three good ports and another with three versions particularly notable for their poor state.

In 2025, the list of troublemakers included the following titles:

  • Remastered The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The main issue with this version is the terrible and pervasive stutters, present even in the original Oblivion from 2006. Bethesda and Virtuos didn’t address this issue even with post-release patches, the latest of which came out in July.
  • The Outer Worlds 2. During DF's tests, the sequel performed well on Xbox Series, but on PC, the situation is far from ideal. The game suffers from frame time issues, affecting smoothness, and the developers poorly implemented hardware ray tracing. Stuttering issues are also present here.
  • Monster Hunter Wilds. Initially, the project performed poorly on both PC and consoles: visual artifacts, stuttering, low texture quality, and so on were observed. Capcom continues to work on optimization, and many problematic aspects have been fixed, but there’s still much to do. “I look at all these barren locations in the game and still don't get where the performance is going,” commented Alex Battaglia, another DF expert.

As for outstanding PC ports of 2025, Digital Foundry highlighted these games:

  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Several aspects pleased the hosts: excellent lighting, convincing real-time reflections, incredible weather effects, and more. All this is complemented by beautiful art and in-engine cutscenes that are so well done they seem pre-rendered.
  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. Although Warhorse Studios' creation didn't make it to Digital Foundry's list of games with the best graphics of 2025, it was still recognized for its performance. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II became one of the few open-world games this year with no stuttering. No matter how densely populated a city in the game is or how many invisible load boundaries a gamer crosses, KC:D II firmly holds 60 fps.
  • DOOM: The Dark Ages. Many were uneasy with the news that the new DOOM wouldn't allow disabling ray tracing. However, id Software managed to implement everything so that the graphics turned out stunning, and the game’s stability isn't compromised.
