Modder Turns Car Amplifier into Cooler for RTX 3080
Enthusiasts continue to prove that standard cooling systems are just a starting point for creativity. A modder with the nickname Nacho Customz has crossed a powerful GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card with the chassis from an old 100-watt car audio amplifier. The result turned out to be not only aesthetically flawless but also incredibly effective.
The aluminum amplifier chassis itself is a giant heatsink with a huge dissipation area. The modder polished the base and mated it to a copper baseplate that contacts the graphics processor. To mount such a "slab" onto the printed circuit board, special steel brackets had to be made, as the weight of the structure significantly exceeds the standard 1.5–2 kg. To allow air to circulate between the amplifier's fins, three hidden low-profile 92mm Noctua fans were installed, working as exhaust.
As a result, the graphics processor temperature dropped by 10 degrees compared to the factory Founders Edition design. The graphics card does not heat up above 62 degrees in tests under maximum load.
