Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Announcement
Announcement trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
Activision and Infinity Ward have officially introduced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. The release date is October 23. Notably, this entry will skip Xbox One and PlayStation 4—first time in many years—while landing on Nintendo Switch 2.
Infinity Ward describes the new Call of Duty as "hardcore" and "maximally authentic," promising a technical jump across the series. The devs say Modern Warfare 4 was built solely for current-gen hardware (i.e., PS5, Xbox Series, PC).
The campaign is set on the Korean Peninsula. The story fires off when a new North Korean leader launches an invasion of the South, pulling the region into a wider conflict. You follow Park, a young South Korean soldier thrown into combat for the first time; Captain Price also returns, operating outside Task Force 141 with his own ragged group.

Missions won't be Korea-only. Expect stops in New York, Paris, and Mumbai, among others. Predictably, the premise has already stirred debate: some outlets and players think a pitched war on the Korean Peninsula is a touchy subject, esp. for regional audiences.
Multiplayer at launch includes 12 maps for the "6v6" playlist, fresh Gunfight arenas, plus larger modes mixing vehicles and foot soldiers. A new rule-set called Kill Block alters the map itself—hundreds of layout permutations change cover, lanes, and sightlines so no round feels identical.
According to Infinity Ward, the shooting model was overhauled from the ground up. The team tied together bullet paths, weapon animations, stances, camera behavior, sound cues, FOV, and target visibility into one system so firefights feel more consistent and less driven by RNG. In short: weapons should land in ways players can predict and learn.
A new Gunny system aims to speed up loadout building. Using modules and upgrades you've already unlocked, you can quickly kit a weapon for a given playstyle (hum. note: faster setup, less fiddling between matches).

Progression choices return, too. The prestige system is back with two paths: standard or classic. Classic will wipe parts of your progress and lock some cosmetics, but it speeds up leveling and hands out unique rewards for those who opt in.
DMZ extraction mode makes its comeback with dynamic weather—matches will shift as conditions and enemy placements evolve on the fly.
Separately, Activision confirmed a Switch 2 version. This marks a return to a Nintendo platform after a long absence; the franchise's last "Big N" stop was Call of Duty: Ghosts on Wii U (2013).
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will ship on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store, Battle.net), Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. Text localization in Russian will be available.
