AI Makes Senior IT Professionals Stronger, While Juniors Only Lose Out
Research shows that AI is rapidly changing software development: by the end of 2025, a third of all new features in the US were already being created with its help. The share of code written with AI in America grew from 5% in 2022 to 30% in 2025. Germany and France reached 23-24%, India — 20%, while Russia and China lag behind with figures of 15% and 12% respectively, which is linked to limited access to advanced models.
Interestingly, novice programmers use AI more often (37% vs. 27% among experienced ones), but it is the professionals who reap the real benefits. Their productivity increased by 3.6%, while no significant growth is observed among beginners. This indicates that the technology does not level the playing field but, on the contrary, may widen the gap. Experienced developers, with the help of AI, not only work faster but also experiment more actively with new tools, expanding their skills.
The economic impact is already significant. In the US, where annual spending on programmer salaries ranges from $637 billion to $1.06 trillion, the adoption of AI adds $23 to $38 billion to the economy annually. Researchers emphasize that this is a conservative estimate and the technology's influence continues to grow.
