The organizers of GDC asked developers about their stance on using generative AI in the gaming industry as part of their annual survey. 52% of the more than 2,300 respondents expressed a negative view.
The report's authors noted that opinion is shifting in a negative direction. Two years ago, 18% of developers held the same position, and a year ago, it was 30%.
Artists, designers, writers, and programmers were the most dissatisfied with AI. However, these tools are quite popular among leadership and managers. Senior management (47%) uses AI tools more often than junior employees (29%), and among studio heads, neural networks are in demand by 36% of people.
Most often, artificial intelligence assists with research, brainstorming, answering emails, writing code, and creating prototypes.
Also in the GDC survey, representatives of the gaming industry reported that 28% of respondents were laid off last year. 48% of them still haven't been able to find a new job. And 36% of that number are those who were laid off more than a year ago.
