A Tiny Musical Game Boy, GameCube Classics, and New Pokémon Announcements – What Was Shown at Pokémon Presents
The franchise about small and cute, yet deadly creatures and their trainers has turned a whopping 30 years old. To celebrate the anniversary, The Pokémon Company held a presentation, where they showed off a fun souvenir for many dollars, talked about the release of a classic series entry on Switch 2, and even announced new Pokémon!
A Game Boy-Style Musical Souvenir
The Pokémon Company came out swinging right away with an unusual souvenir for fans — the Pokémon Game Music Collection. It's a music player styled like a Game Boy with a set of interchangeable cartridges. Sales started today in the Pokémon Center online stores in the USA, Canada, and the UK.
The set includes 45 mini-cartridges. They contain music tracks from Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue. It works like this: the user inserts a cartridge — the device plays the chosen track from the original games. For this wonderful gadget, they're asking fans a mere $99.
Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness on Switch 2
Fans of the older games in the series were treated to another addition to the Nintendo GameCube — Nintendo Classics library. Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness will be added to the catalog for Switch 2. The game was released on GameCube in 2005. In the story, a sinister organization uses corrupted creatures to take over the world. The protagonist, Michael, sets out on a journey with Eevee and allies to snag and purify Shadow Pokémon.
Nintendo did not specify an exact release date for the service but confirmed the project will arrive in March.
Pokémon Champions Release Window
The Pokémon Company announced the release window for the competitive Pokémon Champions. The project launches on Nintendo Switch in April. Versions for iOS and Android will appear later — during 2026.
The developers promise familiar mechanics, two battle formats, and three modes. Players will be able to transfer creatures via the Pokémon HOME service and form teams from different games in the series. Later this year, support for linking with Pokemon Legends: Z-A will be added. After connecting to Pokémon HOME, trainers will be able to send Pokémon that are present in both games to Pokémon Champions and use them in battles. Players will receive bonuses for transferring certain creatures.
Pokémon Pokopia Details
The presentation showed a new trailer for Pokémon Pokopia. The trailer introduced DJ Rotom — a Rotom that has taken up residence inside a stereo system. In the game, you can give it a CD, and then it will fill the town with various tracks. Even Ditto and other Pokémon dance to its beats.
The story begins in a wasteland where Ditto meets Professor Thornrose. A city once stood here, but now little remains of it. The player helps the Pokémon step by step to rebuild the settlement and bring it back to life.
The trailer also showed a Greedent nicknamed Chef Dente. He teaches how to cook various dishes. Each Pokémon has its own tastes, and some recipes enhance abilities in battle. Food helps develop the town more efficiently and unlock new possibilities.
The developers also gave a glimpse of co-op. In Pokémon Pokopia, you can team up with three friends and visit each other's towns. Players can organize mini-games like hide-and-seek, where participants can turn into objects. Together, you can build large structures and go on expeditions.
Pokémon Pokopia releases on Nintendo Switch 2 on March 5th.
Announcement of Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves
At the end of the anniversary celebration, The Pokémon Company and Game Freak dropped the announcement of Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves. The action will unfold in an open world with islands and a vast ocean with shimmering waves.
Players will take on the role of a new trainer. The hero's appearance will differ depending on the chosen version. At the start, three partner Pokémon will be offered: Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua. The developers also showed special Pikachu — Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu, which will be part of the new lineup.
Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves will be released worldwide in 2027, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.
