A film based on an as‑yet‑unreleased novel by Frieda McFadden, titled The Divorce, is reportedly in development. Studiocanal holds the project’s rights.

Plot note: Naomi becomes obsessed with the younger woman her husband left her for — i.e., the fixation at the story’s center. That obsession drags her toward revelations that are meant to surprise (and unnerve) the reader. No director has been announced yet. The book is due out internationally on May 26.

Other McFadden titles are lined up for screen versions as well: The Surrogate Mother, The Teacher, Dear Debbie, and The Tenant.

A sequel to The Maid is also underway; its release is scheduled for December 17, 2027. Sidney Swinney is set to return as the lead.
